Compatibility with Thunderbird 3.1 and Lightning 1.0b2

ThunderBirthDay

Today, I can finally announce that ThunderBirthDay 0.3.3 is compatible with Thunderbird 3.1 and Lightning 1.0b2! This means that it works again with the newest version of these applications.

No changes where needed, only the compatibility infomation has been adapted (for more about compatibility updates, see here). Theses infomration are retrieved by Thunderbird when it checks for updates.

Here's what you need to do to make it work again:

  • If you haven't used ThunderBirthDay before, just download it from addons.mozilla.org and install it as any other extension. Make sure you're connected to the internet when installing it, so the updated compatibility information can be retrieved.
  • If you were using ThunderBirthDay before, but you haven't updated to Thundbird 3.1 yet, you don't have to do anything. When you update to Thunderbird 3.1, the new compatibility information will be retrieved automatically and ThunderBirthDay will continue working.
  • If you have updated Thunderbird to version 3.1 and you were using ThunderBirthDay before, ThunderBirthDay has been disabled after the update. In order to reactive, go to Tools > Add-ons... and click on Check for updates.... Thunderbird will retrive compatibility information on the internet and reactive ThunderBirthDay.

If you experience any difficulties, please let me know!

Thanks a lot to all those who provided work-around during my absence, and those who encouraged me to provide an update! This is what keeps me doing this in my spare time :-)

Reminder

Thanks for this great feature! If have a suggestion: Would it be possible to add a reminder feature that causes an alert at a specified time before (as for other Lightning Calendar Events)?

Best Regards
Philipp

Possible, but hard...

Hey Philipp,

Reminders are possible, but hard to implement. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time yet. You can find more information here.

Best regards,
Ingo

Thunderbird 3.1 is NOT combatible

ThunderBirthDay 0.3.3 is not combatible with TB 3.1. In your install.rdf you wrote em:maxVersion>3.0.*

Fortunately, it does work :-)

It's true that maxVersion is set to 3.0.* in the install.rdf, but as you can read in the article above, Thunderbird can install it anyway, when it is connected to the internet. It will look up compatability information online, which overwrite maxVersion of the install.rdf. You can read more here:

tb 3.2a1pre compatibility

In the addons manager there is this 'Requires additional items' warning and there is no way to enable the addon.

Lighting

Is Lightning installed and working? Usually a "missing item" is Lightning which is not working...
